Laruan Atbp. Cafe tries to combine a sumptuous dining experience with fun-filled entertainment courtesy of board games, toys, and comics.

Located along the long stretch of Maginhawa Street, the restaurant has a basement feel to it. Grey walls surround the interior of the dining area, complete with metal chairs and wooden-top tables.

There is also a mini upstairs section where customers can dine and play on floor pillows and crate-like tables.

Diners can choose among a wide selection of dinng choices which consist of rice meals, sandwiches, pasta, finger food, and dessert. For beverages, Laruan offers both hot and cold drinks. Beer is also served.

I ate in Laruan for two consecutive days: May 26 (dinner) and May 27 (lunch).

Upon my first arrival, the place was bursting with people, both on the first floor and the small second floor. Customers were eating, having fun playing board games and chatting with each other boisterously.

The dining area was spacious. Even though some tables are placed closely next to each other, it is still easy to navigate your way around. Racks of board games and books are strategically placed besided and in the middle of the dining area.

Most of the items on their menu are priced P100 or higher. Not really for those with tight budget. What caught my attention, however, is the P150 consumable fee for "unlimited play" of the games and toys.

For my two-day dining experience at Laruan, I ordered carbonara and blueberry milk tea (May 26) and chicken & cheese sandwich and strawberry tea (May 27). Food was served faster on May 26 than on the 27th, despite the smaller volume of diners on the latter date.

In terms of service, the staff are friendly and attentive. They make sure to meet every request of the customers. Even on the night of the 27th, they were able to handle a full house.

Lauran Atbp. Cafe lives up to its name: quality dining and fun-filled activities that can be enjoyed by customers of all ages. Food and games don't usually mix, but for this restaurant, the fusion works.
